Remembering Mau Mau: Exhibition in Progress…

Chao and Olivia recently met up in the UK to continue developing thoughts on the exhibition. Below are some snaps from our work on the interactive digital map of detention centres throughout Kenya. We are using a range of sources including Caroline Elkins’ groundbreaking book, Britain’s Gulag (centre image).

The map on the right shows the very beginnings of our work (well.. Chao’s work…). We plan to develop this further over the next few weeks and then share it with veterans and claimants to begin to incorporate their feedback and stores.

Manda Island, where Gitu Wa Kahengeri did seven years’ hard labour, is located on the east coast, where the red and purple dot are.
